The Sacrament of Baptism is the sign and seal of the covenant God has made with us in Jesus Christ. Our Christian identity begins in baptism, and in this sacrament we are marked forever as Christ's own. Baptism assures us of our cleansing from sin, of our participation in Christ's death and resurrection, and of our welcome into the household of God. We gladly celebrate baptism of infants, youth and adults in our worship services.

It is difficult under emotional stress to plan wisely. The session encourages members to discuss and plan in advance when possible. The arrangements which will be necessary at the time of death, include decisions about the Christian options of burial, cremation, or donation for medical purposes. These plans should provide for arrangements that are simple, bear witness to resurrection hope, and are central to the Christian community.

Beginning in February, the Kate Rieves Scholarship and Caroline Dickerson Scholarship applications are available.

Caroline Dickerson was a long-time member of our church and life-long advocate for education. When she died in 2006, she made known her wish for establishing a scholarship fund forunmarried students.

The Kate Rieves Scholarship was begun in 1971 and is awarded each year to “deservingChristian students.” This fund was established to honor Kate Rieves, wife of the Rev. S.L. Rieves (pastor of First Presbyterian Church, 1913-1917) and a longtime church school teacher in our congregation.

Please read the letter and application carefully as they detail all the requirements. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. You may apply for both scholarships, but can only be awarded one. Deadline for turning in applications is March 15, 2021.
