Each month the Social Justice Ministry will focus on an important issue to educate our congregation through our monthly newsletter, website, and monthly speaker series. Together, we are Living Grace First through all that we do.
May 2021: Gun Violence Prevention
Monthly Speaker: Rev. Deanna Hollas
The May Social Justice Ministry focus is Gun Violence Prevention.
We are excited to welcome Rev. Deanna Hollas, Gun Violence
Prevention Ministry Coordinator with Presbyterian Peace Fellowship,
to our worship on Sunday, May 2. She will preach that day and then
join us on Tuesday, May 4 at 6:30pm on zoom for a discussion.
Please make every effort to join us for worship on Sunday
and the discussion on Tuesday.
Unmasking the Powers Behind Gun Violence
Theologian Walter Wink understood that there are invisible forces that shape and determine human existence and when we unmask these powers, they lose their influence and create the space for us to make conscious decisions about how we want to live. In this class, Rev. Deanna Hollas will lead us in an exploration of the
forces behind our gun violence epidemic and give us resources for how we can respond and live into one of the Greats Ends of the Church - Exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.
The Rev. Deanna Hollas is the Gun Violence Prevention Ministry Coordinator with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship and a founding member of the Everytown for Gun Safety Interfaith Advisory Council. In her role with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, Rev. Hollas empowers and equips individuals and congregations across the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination to embody Jesus’s call to love God and love neighbor by being informed and active in the prevention of gun violence. Rev. Hollas is also a spiritual director and co-founder of Retreat House Spirituality Center in Richardson, TX. She holds a Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology as well as a Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary.
