Monthly Speaker Series: How Covid has Impacted the Homeless in our Community

Speaker: Michael Handley, Director of Communications at the Presbyterian Night Shelter

When: Tuesday, December 8th at 5:30PM

What: Michael oversees all communication efforts for the Presbyterian Night Shelter in Fort Worth, Texas. He is going to share how Covid has had an impact on their efforts in providing shelter and care

for thousands of individuals in our community.

Did you know more than 500,000 people were homeless in 2019 in America?  Texas was ranked 4th in the nation, behind CA, NY & FL, with 28,328 homeless.  Additionally, more than 500,000 Texans had a severe housing cost burden in which they spent 50% or more of their income on housing.

While Texas has more than 13,000 emergency shelter beds available, Parker County has limited emergency shelter options available. Transportation to Fort Worth resources is not readily available.  Often, people need a few weeks emergency shelter/transitional housing to get back on their feet, finding jobs and housing solutions.

GFPC, through Mission & Outreach programs, provides regular support to the Presbyterian Night Shelter in Fort Worth.
